La Peza: Gasolinera - Ermita San Antón - Fuente de la Gitana

Note: After this route, we will eat at the Gas Station Restaurant on the outskirts of La Peza. There is a set menu for 12 euros and the regular menu. If you want to go to the restaurant, please indicate this when you sign up for the route. Write an R for the number of people who want to go to the restaurant.
The walk starts and finishes at the gasolinera. Look at the meeting point link for directions. You can see the menu there too.

On this circular route we walk from La Peza to the Fuente de la Gitana. The route is 12.80 km long, has an elevation of 240 m and takes about 4 hours to complete.
LONG DESCRIPTION
The route starts at the petrol station just outside the village of La Peza, and begins by following the road to reach a track that runs parallel to the Río Morollón. We reach the village of La Peza, and from here, we make our way up into the hills above the village to the Ermita de San Antón. We continue walking up through the Cerro San Antonio, and past the Lomo Arcuilla, which is the highest point of the route at 1183 m. There is then a fairly level section through the Barranco del Cucadero, before we make our way down to the Fuente de la Gitana by the side of the Río Morollón. We then make our way back to the starting point.

This circular route explores the Sierra de Huétor and climbs up to the Cerro Buenavista. The route is 9.95 km long, has a elevation of 416 m and takes about 4 hours to complete.
LONG DESCRIPTION
The route begins in the Llanos de Fátima in the Sierra de Huétor. We follow the track to the left and go up through the Dehesa de Beas until we find the path around the Cerro Oscuro. We pass an old farmhouse next to a quarry and continue on up the Collado del Lobo to the Cerro Buenavista at 1665 m with impressive views of the sierras. The second part of the route is almost all downhill until we return to the starting point.

This circular route explores the Badlands area to the north of Guadix. The route is 10.41 km long, has an elevation of 179 m and takes about 3.5 hours to complete.
LONG DESCRIPTION
This circular route starts in Guadix. We make our way up towards the Ermita del Humilladero and then follow the track past railway tracks, crossing the highway, and climbing up via the Camino de la Cueva del Monje, with fantastic views of the Rambla de Zaraguhit, Sierra Nevada, the Altiplano de Guadix and the Cueva del Monje. We continue on through a pine forest which leads to a number of rock formations known as El Diente and La Muela. We then follow the Rambla de Baza back down to return to the starting point.

This route goes from Restabal to Saleres and then on to Albuñuelas. The route is 11.03 km long, has an elevation of 256 m and takes about 4 hours to complete.
LONG DESCRIPTION
This mainly circular route starts in the village of Restabal in the Lecrín Valley. We make our way up through the Barranco de las Arenas to Saleres and then follow the Río Albuñúelas through the Arroyo Adelfas and the Barranco de las Cabezuelas to Albuñuelas. From here was make our way down back to the starting point. There are a number of fountains and waterfalls along the route.

LONG DESCRIPTION
This circular walking route starts in La Peza. We begin by walking up to the Mirador de las Mulas with its views of the village, the Arab castle and the surrounding hills. We then follow the Cañada de la Peste round the Cerro de la Cortina and past Alto de Atochas. We cross the main road and continue along the Rambla Seco and Tajo Burraco and skirt round the edge of the Pantano Francisco Abellán to follow the Rio Morollón. Finally, we make our way back to the starting point.

This circular route explores the hills to the south of the village of Agrón, near Ventas de Huelma. The route is 10.42 km long, has an elevation of 332 m and takes about 4 hours to complete.
LONG DESCRIPTION
This circular walking route starts in the village of Agrón. We begin by walking down to the lavaderos and the fountain on the edge of the village. There is then an uphill section as we make our way up the Cerro de la Pera to the highest point of the route at 1296 m. From here, we walk down to the Collado de Puerto Blanco and round past the Manchón de Enmedio through the Umbría de las Vacas. We coninue on down back to Agrón and then up again to the starting point.

This circular route explores the springs, irrigation channels, and castle of Lanjarón. The route is 9.58 km long, has a 331 m elevation gain, and takes approximately 4 hours to complete.
LONG DESCRIPTION
The route starts in Lanjarón. We walk up through the village, passing the Ayuntamiento and various fountains, and follow the Sendero del Aceituno to the Alberca del Aceituno. From here, we continue on up to the Fuente de la Huerta de las Monjas to reach the acequia. This is the highest part of the route. There is a level section as we follow the acequia, before walking down to the Fuente del Zenete. We then follow the track down to behind Bar El Frenazo, before crossing over to walk to two view points: the Mirador de los Héroes and the Mirador de la Cañona. We retrace our steps and then visit the ruins of the Castillo de Lanjarón before making our way back to the starting point.

This easy walk follows part of the tram network between Güéjar Sierra and the Sierra Nevada. The walk is 10.3km long and takes about 3 hours to complete.
LONG DESCRIPTION
This easy linear walk follows part of the old tram network and tramlines from Güéjar Sierra to the Sierra Nevada. There is a gentle ascent and the walk starts by La Fabriquilla on the eastern side of the Canales Dam. We pass some of the stations and go through a number of tunnels before turning back and retracing our steps to the starting point.

This route climbs up to the Ermita del Cristo del Zapato from the Embalse de Béznar. The route is 10.7 km long, has an elevation of 524 m and takes about 4 hours to complete.
LONG DESCRIPTION
This mainly linear route starts by the Embalse de Béznar. From here, we follow the Sendero de Alauxa to Pinos del Valle. We walk through the village and then start the steady ascent, zigzagging up to the Ermita del Cristo del Zapato at 1020 m. Here, there is a viewpoint with amazing views of the surrounding areas. This is the highest point of the route. We then follow the same track down but halfway down, we follow the track to the right and make our way gently down to the Cerro de los Cigarrones. Once again, we walk through the village to return back to the starting point.

LONG DESCRIPTION
The route starts in the village of Deifontes. Walking anti-clockwise, we walk through the village, following the Sendero de las Fuentes. After the Fuente de la Maceta, we start our uphill climb walking up to the Atalaya watchtower and the Mirador de la Atalaya, which is the highest point of the walk. We then make our way round to the Área Recreativa and then round and down to the Fuente de las Nogueras, before returning to the starting point.

LONG DESCRIPTION
This circular route starts by walking along the Barranco de Fuentes Altas in Padul. We then continue on up along the Barranco del Anciano and the Cuesta del Arroyo and up to the Hoyo del Tío Fortuna which is the highest point of the walk at 1037 m. Here, we can enjoy some fantastic views of the surrounding hills and the Sierra Nevada mountain range. We then make our walk down by following the Camino de los Garranchales back to the starting point.

The last section of the route is fairly level as we make our way back to the starting point.

This circular walk starts next to the Pantano de Quéntar near the village of Quéntar. It is 11.9km long, has an elevation of 408m and takes approximately 4 hours to complete.
Please note: If you find fallen fruit or nuts on the public road then it is OK to pick it up. BUT you must not enter into private property and pick anything!!
LONG DESCRIPTION
The walk starts by the Pantano de Quéntar. After the dam, there is a gentle uphill section and we walk past the statue of the mountain goat and through the Barranco del Tintín and past a number of cortijos (including the Cortijo del Tintín). It is then necessary to cross the arroyo del Tintín and begin the climb up to the highest point at 1405m (Cuerda de Hazas Negras). Those who want to climb up can. Following the track down, we come to a gate without a fence and then make our way back to the starting point.

The route explores the hills and the trenches around Alfaguara in the Sierra de Huétor. The walk is 10.52 km long, has an elevation of 188 m and takes about 3.5 hours to complete.
LONG DESCRIPTION
The route starts at the Puerto Alfacar in Alfagura. From here, we begin a gradual ascent up to the Trincheras de la Yedra and then on to the Trincheras del Llano del Fraile. We continue on up to Hospital de Tuberculosos - a hospital built by a wealthy German woman, Berta Wilhelmi, following the death of her brother who fell ill with tuberculosis. From here, we continue walking up to above the Cueva del Agua, which is the highest point of the walk, and then make our way down through the Alfaguarilla and back to the starting point.

LONG DESCRIPTION
The route starts in the centre of Dílar. We start by following the Camino Nuevo and the Carretera de la Fábrica to cross the Río Dílar. We then follow the river another couple of kilimetres before crossing it once again to make our way back passing the Mirador de Toril, the Mirador de las Bocas del Río, the Mirador del Encinar, the Mirador de Bizcandía and the Mirador de la Hoya to return to the starting point.

This clockwise circular route goes from the village of Dúdar to the Dehesa del Generalife and passes the Canal and the Acueducto de los Franceses. It is 14.4km long, has an elevation of 365m and takes approximately 5 hours to complete.
LONG DESCRIPTION
This lollipop route begins in the village of Dúdar, near Quéntar. We begin by walking up to the Acueducto de los Franceses and then follow the Camino de Belén, past the remains of the Canal de los Franceses and up to the Peña de los Agujeros, the higest point of the walk. We then walk on to the Cortijo La Marra and then reach the Dehesa del Generalife. We follow the track round to the Cortijo de Belén, which was built in 1882, and then on up to the Ermita del Santo Cristo del Almecí. From here, we make our way back to the starting point.

This anticlockwise circular route goes from the Centro de Visitantes Puerto Lobo to the Cruz de Víznar. It is 11.2km long, has an elevation of 432m and takes approximately 4 hours to complete.
LONG DESCRIPTION
The walk starts at the Centro de Visitantes Puerto Lobo in the Sierra de Huétor. We follow the SLA 123 track through the Barranco de la Umbria between the Cerro de las Calaveras (1586m) on our left and the Cerro del Pino (1466m) on our right. A bit further, we take the left track which leads to the Cueva del Agua. From here, we climb above the cave and walk on to the Cruz de Víznar where there are fantastic views of the Sierra and Granada. From here, we make our way back to the starting point.

This route starts at Posiciones de Veleta and finishes at Hoya de la Mora. The route is 10 km long, has an elevation of 280 m, and taks about 4 hours to complete.
LONG DESCRIPTION
For this track, it is necessary to take the lanzadera up from the Albergue Universitario at Hoya de la Mora to Posiciones de Veleta (Reservations +34 671 564 407, Price 7€, Dogs are allowed if booked). From here, we walk up to the Pico del Veleta, the highest point of the walk at 3389 m. From here, we make our waydown to the Refugio de la Carihuela and round to the Lagunillos de la Virgen. There is then a gentle descent back down to the Hoya de la Mora.

Puerto de La Ragua – Pico Chullo

The average temperature on this walk will be around 10C cooler than in Granada or on the coast.
Route length: 8.5 km Estimated duration: 3 h 30 m Starting altitude: 2,030 m Maximum altitude reached: 2,613 m Maximum positive slope: 605 m. It is the highest point in the province of Almeria, there is a panoramic view from the top.
LONG DESCRIPTION
The starting point, Puerta de la Ragua is better known for winter sports such as cross country skiing in the winter but in the summer it is a good place to climb to a high altitude to enjoy the cool temperatures. This route climbs the Chullo mountain which is 2,613 meters of altitude and the highest point in the province of Almeria. It is easily accessible and is an easy climb. From the summit there is a wonderful panoramic view: To the south, the Sierras de Gádor, Contraviesa and Lújar, behind them the Mediterranean; below is , the Alpujarra. To the west Mulhacén, Alcazaba, Cerro Pelado and Picón de Jeres. To the north, the plains of the Marquesado, the Hoya de Guadix, the Sierra de Baza and, in the background, Cazorla, the Sagra and Segura. To the east, the line of peaks of the Sierra Nevada Almeriense, with the Cerro del Almirez in the foreground.

LONG DESCRIPTION
The route starts on the southern side of the village of Mecina Bombarón. From here, we walk up through the village to the Acequia Alta at an altitude of 1330 m. We follow the acequia alta until the Río Mecina. We then make our way back down following the Acequia Baja to return to the starting point.

LONG DESCRIPTION
The route starts at the Visitor's Centre where there is plenty of parking. The starting point is in the Parque Natural to the north-east of the village of Cazorla. This is a fairly easy walk with scenic views, water fountains, and fish farms as we follow the Río Borosa uphill to the Cerrada de Elias. We then retrace our steps to walk back to the starting point.

We begin the route in the town of La Peza. We walk through the village up to the Ermita San Antón. We follow the path uphill through Loma Acuilla to reach the highest point of the route at 1183 m. We now begin the descent, walking through Área Recreativa Fuente de la Gitana. We follow a section of the road before passing through el Almage to return to the beginning of the route.

LONG DESCRIPTION
The route starts in El Purche. From here, we take the track and begin the uphill climb to the first peak at 1631 metres. We continue on up to the peak of El Cerrajón at 1643 metres, before hiking up another three peaks. This is the highest point of the route and from here, the walk back is mainly downhill except for the uphill section to the Cerro de Manolón. We then begin the downhill walk back to the starting point.

LONG DESCRIPTION
The route starts just outside the village of Monachil. From the carpark, we follow the Pista del Cortijo del Hervidero with a fairly gentle uphill section up to the Cerro Redondo. We then walk through the Barranco de Corvales to the Collado del Tejarillo and on through the Barranco de la Cuesta de Formes. We then walk through the Cortijo del Balzaín before crossing the Carretera a Cumbres Verdes. There is now an off-piste section through the Llanos de Satajardas to connect up later with another track which we follow to El PUntal and then back to the starting point.

On this circular route, we walk from the village of Diezma to the Río Fardes and back. The route is 11.59 km long, has an elevation of 284 m and takes about 4.5 hours to complete.
LONG DESCRIPTION
We begin the route in the small village of Diezma. We walk under the A92 motorway and then down through the olive groves in the Llano de las Eras and the Llano los Bañuelos, passing the Cortijo de los Bañuelos. We soon come to the Río Fardes which we follow for a while, passing a couple of old abandoned mills. We then make our way back up a fairly steep section through Los Tejares to La Cumbre. From here, the uphill section is more gentle as we pass the Cortijo de Jíbar up to the Haza de las Albuñuelas and back to the starting point.

LONG DESCRIPTION
This mainly linear route starts by the Embalse de Béznar. From here, we follow the Sendero de Alauxa to Pinos del Valle. We walk through the village and then start the steady ascent, zigzagging up to the Ermita del Cristo del Zapato at 1020 m. Here, there is a viewpoint with amazing views of the surrounding areas. This is the highest point of the route. We then follow the same track down but halfway down, we follow the track to the right and make our way gently down to the Cerro de los Cigarrones. Once again, we walk through the village to return back to the starting point.

The walk starts by the Pantano de Quéntar. After the dam, there is a gentle uphill section and we walk past the statue of the mountain goat and through the Barranco del Tintín and past a number of cortijos (including the Cortijo del Tintín). It is then necessary to cross the arroyo del Tintín and begin the climb up to the highest point at 1405m (Cuerda de Hazas Negras). Those who want to climb up can. Following the track down, we come to a gate without a fence and then make our way back to the starting point.

This circular route walks from the village of Dúdar up tothe Mirador de Quéntar. The route is 10.5 km long, has an elevation of 414 m and takes about 4 hours to complete.
LONG DESCRIPTION
The route starts in the village of Dúdar near the Pantano de Quéntar. We follow the Río Aguas Blancas and then make our way up first to the Mirador de Quéntar and then to the Mirador de la Presa de Quéntar and the Trincheras de la Ventanilla. From here, the route is mainly downhill as we make our way back down and round back to Dúdar.

Güéjar Sierra: Acequia de la Solana - Río Maitena - Embalse Canales

This circular walk starts in the village of Güéjar Sierra. It is 12.2km long, has an elevation of 283m and takes approximately 4 hours to complete.
LONG DESCRIPTION
We start the route in the middle of the village and walk up to the barrio alto, past the Lavadero de las Eras Bajas and the Fuente de los 16 caños. From here, we follow the track el Sendero de la Gitana down to the Balsa de la Solana. We then follow the acequia along to the Molino del Coto. For most of the route, we follow the acequia but when we come to a farm with animals and here we have to circle round the top part to rejoin the track later. We continue on down to the Molino and across the bridge. We then leave the track and walk down to the Río Maitena along the Cuesta de la Viña. After a while, we come to one of the old tram stations and we then follow the tram rails to the tip of the Canales Reservoir. There is then a steep hike back up to the starting point.

We only did this walk a few weeks ago. We are doing it again because it is a very pleasant walk and it is at high altitude so it is nice and cool.
This circular route walks up from Puerto de la Ragua to the Refugio El Toril. The route is 9.45 km long, has an elevation of 264 m and takes approximately 4 hours to complete.
LONG DESCRIPTION
From the Puerto de la Ragua, we make our way gently upwards to the Refugio del Castañar. After 4.7 km, the uphill ascent starts through the Prado Grande up to the Refugio del Castañar at 2140m and on to the Refugio El Torial at 2150 m. We then follow the track back round through Las Chorreras. We then cross the Morrón de las Tres Lindes before returning to the starting point.

This route starts at Posiciones de Veleta and finishes at Hoya de la Mora. The route is 10 km long, has an elevation of 280 m, and taks about 4 hours to complete.
LONG DESCRIPTION
For this track, it is necessary to take the lanzadera up from the Albergue Universitario at Hoya de la Mora to Posiciones de Veleta (Reservations +34 671 564 407, Price 6€, Dogs are allowed if booked). From here, we walk up to the Pico del Veleta, the highest point of the walk at 3389 m. From here, we make our waydown to the Refugio de la Carihuela and round to the Lagunillos de la Virgen. There is then a gentle descent back down to the Hoya de la Mora.

Route length: 8.5 km Estimated duration: 3 h 30 m Starting altitude: 2,030 m Maximum altitude reached: 2,613 m Maximum positive slope: 605 m. It is the highest point in the province of Almeria, there is a panoramic view from the top.
LONG DESCRIPTION
The starting point, Puerta de la Ragua is better known for winter sports such as cross country skiing in the winter but in the summer it is a good place to climb to a high altitude to enjoy the cool temperatures. This route climbs the Chullo mountain which is 2,613 meters of altitude and the highest point in the province of Almeria. It is easily accessible and is an easy climb. From the summit there is a wonderful panoramic view: To the south, the Sierras de Gádor, Contraviesa and Lújar, behind them the Mediterranean; below is , the Alpujarra. To the west Mulhacén, Alcazaba, Cerro Pelado and Picón de Jeres. To the north, the plains of the Marquesado, the Hoya de Guadix, the Sierra de Baza and, in the background, Cazorla, the Sagra and Segura. To the east, the line of peaks of the Sierra Nevada Almeriense, with the Cerro del Almirez in the foreground.

LONG DESCRIPTION
The walk starts just above the Sierra Nevada Pradollano Ski Resort. We follow the Collado del Diablo and make our way down to the Refugio San Francisco, walking through the Arroyo de San Juan to the Piedra Resbaladiza. After following part of the Acequia de Hoyo Puente, we walk up to the top of Morrón de Haza Mesa at 2208m. We then continue on the othe side of the Haza Mesa and follow the Acequia Haza Mesa back to the start of the loop. We then retrace our steps back to the starting point.

LONG DESCRIPTION
The route starts in the small village of Castril. From here, we follow the Río Castril down and walk across bridges, along wooden walkways and over a suspended metal bridge. As we make our way back on the other side of the river there are fantastic views of the surrounding areas and we then come to the Área Recreativa de Castril. We walk through the village and then on to the Embalse de El Portillo before making our way back to the starting point.

LONG DESCRIPTION
The route starts at the Collado del Muerto (1491 m) on the Carretera El Purche. From here, we walk clockwise following the Camino Real de los Neveros up to the Cerro de Cuesta Bermeja (at almost 1680 m). We continue on to the Collado de las Víboras (1677 m) before making our way down to the Río Monachil, circling round the Cerro de Manolete. There is then a gentle uphill section therough Las Mimbres back to the starting point.

This route climbs up to the Ermita del Cristo del Zapato from the Embalse de Béznar. The route is 10.7 km long, has an elevation of 524 m and takes about 4 hours to complete.
LONG DESCRIPTION
This mainly linear route starts by the Embalse de Béznar. From here, we follow the Sendero de Alauxa to Pinos del Valle. We walk through the village and then start the steady ascent, zigzagging up to the Ermita del Cristo del Zapato at 1020 m. Here, there is a viewpoint with amazing views of the surrounding areas. This is the highest point of the route. We then follow the same track down but halfway down, we follow the track to the right and make our way gently down to the Cerro de los Cigarrones. Once again, we walk through the village to return back to the starting point.

The route starts in the village of Tocón de Quéntar. We follow the river through the Arroyo del Tocón and then make our way up a section of the Cañada Real Huétor-Guéjar to the summit of the Loma la Molina and the Puerta Ventana at 1533m with its fantastic views. We then make our way between the Cerro Perdiñel (1628m) on our left and the Cerro la Cañadilla (1628m) on our right. From here, we make our way back down to the starting point.

LONG DESCRIPTION
This lollipop route begins in the village of Dúdar, near Quéntar. We begin by walking up to the Acueducto de los Franceses and then follow the Camino de Belén, past the remains of the Canal de los Franceses and up to the Peña de los Agujeros, the higest point of the walk. We then walk on to the Cortijo La Marra and then reach the Dehesa del Generalife. We follow the track round to the Cortijo de Belén, which was built in 1882, and then on up to the Ermita del Santo Cristo del Almecí. From here, we make our way back to the starting point.

This circular route explores the area around Aldeire and is a great walk in the autumn when the trees are changing colour. The route is 12.5km long, it has an elevation of 370m and it takes about 4 hours to complete.
LONG DESCRIPTION
This circular route starts in the small, charming village of Aldeire. Walking clockwise, we begin with a steep uphill section as we make our way up through the Umbría del Tío Calvo to the Castillo de Aldeire, or the Castillo de la Caba, as it is also known. The next uphill section is gentler and we continue on up through La Rosandra to the Mirador de Aldeire. For the next 4km, we walk gently uphill before following the track down to El horcajo and the beginning of the Río Benéjar. We then make our way back to the village, through the Área Recreativa and along the track parallel to the river.

The route starts in the village of Deifontes. Walking anti-clockwise, we walk through the village, following the Sendero de las Fuentes. After the Fuente de la Maceta, we start our uphill climb walking up to the Atalaya watchtower and the Mirador de la Atalaya, which is the highest point of the walk. We then make our way round to the Área Recreativa and then round and down to the Fuente de las Nogueras, before returning to the starting point.

This circular clockwise route explores the Geoparque area near the village of Bácor. The route is 13.8km long, it has an elevation of 430m and it takes about 4.5 hours to complete.
LONG DESCRIPTION
The route starts near the village of Bácor. From here, we follow the Río Baul for about 1.5km before turning off to the left and making our way through the Rambla del Chopo and the Barranco del Crespo. We then make our way up following the Vereda del Chopo up to the Mirador de Caliches, the Casa Forestal del Pajarillo, the Mirador del Oeste or del Cañón del Baúl, and finally the Mirador del Norte. From the top of this mountain, there are fantastic views of the Sierra Nevada, the Sierra de Baza, the SIerra Mágina, La Sagra and Cazorla. We then make our way down through the Rambla del Baúl following the Río Baúl and through the Barranco de la Sabina to return to the starting point.

LONG DESCRIPTION
The walk starts at the Área Recreativa Los Llanos near Monachil. We make our way through the Llanos de Monachil and then follow the Arroyo de Huenes, before making our way up to the Acequia de los Llanos through the Tajos del Fuerte. We continue back past the Fuente del Hervidero and then back to the starting point.

This circular anticlockwise route explores the Parque Periurbano Dehesa del Generalife above Granada near the Alhambra. The walk is 10.2km long, has an elevation of 331m and takes about 4 hours to complete.
LONG DESCRIPTION
The walk starts in Lancha del Genil. We then walk up and round to the Cerro del Sol (1010m). This is the highest point of the walk and after this is it is mainly downhill. The route continues through the Parque Periurbano Dehesa del Generalife to the Aljibe de la Lluvia. Shortly afterwards, there are excellent views of the Silla del Moro and Granada. We continue round through the Barranco del Abogado and back to the starting point.

This anticlockwise circular route goes from the Centro de Visitantes Puerto Lobo to the Cruz de Víznar. It is 11.2km long, has an elevation of 432m and takes approximately 4 hours to complete.
LONG DESCRIPTION
The walk starts at the Centro de Visitantes Puerto Lobo in the Sierra de Huétor. We follow the SLA 123 track through the Barranco de la Umbria between the Cerro de las Calaveras (1586m) on our left and the Cerro del Pino (1466m) on our right. A bit further, we take the left track which leads to the Cueva del Agua. From here, we climb above the cave and walk on to the Cruz de Víznar where there are fantastic views of the Sierra and Granada. From here, we make our way back to the starting point.

Lanjarón - Cañar - Órgiva

This is a linear route from Lanjarón to Cañar and then on to Órgiva. The walk is 16.6km long, has an elevation of 450m and takes about 5 hours to complete.
LONG DESCRIPTION
This spectacular route takes us first from Lanjarón to the Alpujarra town of Cañar. From here, we walk down to the BENEFICIO Hippy Commune, where respect should be shown to its inhabitants and their customs. We then continue our descent to Órgiva.
We walk through Lanjarón in the direction of the Tajo de la Cruz hermitage. We then follow the road to the Alpujarreño town of Cañar, where we will rest and have a drink.
Our walk then continues down to BENEFICIO, the largest hippy commune in Europe and particularly interesting for those who have never been here before as it is set in a beautiful place in the Río Sucio valley.
We continue walking down to the village of Órgiva where we have left our cars to drive back to Lanjarón (or we could take the bus back).

LONG DESCRIPTION
This circular route explores the Sierra de la Yedra above the village of Nívar. We make our way up the La Esperuela, the Solana de los Llanos and the Pollos de la Moraleja. The first part of the walk is up hill following the Vereda de la Yedra with fantastic views of the surrounding areas. On the way back, we follow the Camino de Cadi Al-Faquín down, passing the Nacimiento del Río Nívar to return to the start.

This clockwise route explores the area around Benalua, the Badlands of Guadix in the Geopark. The walk is 14.8km long, has an elevation of 226m and takes about 5 hours to complete.
LONG DESCRIPTION
The walk explores the area east of Benalúa in an area of exceptional beauty in the Guadix area known as the Geoparque. The track begins on the Camino de San Torcuato and after a while, we find ourselves following a section of the old train route between Murcia and Granada. We then come to the Rambla de Zaujena and a series of caves, some of which are still inhabited. We take a left here and make our way up to the Mirador del Cerro Kabila just above the village with fantastic views of Benalúa, the Badlands and the Sierra Nevada. We retrace our steps and then follow the SLA 279. As we circle round, the uphill ascent begins as we make our way to the Rambla del Agua. We then follow the same path as before to return to the starting point.

LONG DESCRIPTION
The route starts at the Restaurant El Hervidero near Cumbres Verdes. The walk begins with a gently uphill ascent to the viewpoint at Canal de la Espartera, then on to the Mirador de los Alayos, with its watchtower, and round the Cerro de las Pipas. There is then an optional steep uphill climb up to the La Boca de la Pescá. From here, we make our way gradually down through the Umbria de Miclara, passing the Cortijo de Parejo. We then circle the Loma de Licerá and make our way back, past the Fuente del Hervidero to the starting point.

LONG DESCRIPTION
The walk starts on the other side of the A92 motorway from Huétor Santillán. We walk up following the River Darro to its source after which it becomes the Barranco del Polvorite. We continue on up through the Arroyo de las Tejoneras to the Mirador del Darro. We then leave the arroyo and follow the track from the Fuente de la Teja on to the Casa Forestal de los Bolones. From we here, we continue following the track down and make our way back to the starting point.

This circular walk starts next to the Pantano de Quéntar near the village of Quéntar. It is 11.9km long, has an elevation of 408m and takes approximately 4 hours to complete.
LONG DESCRIPTION
The walk starts by the Pantano de Quéntar. After the dam, there is a gentle uphill section and we walk past the statue of the mountain goat and through the Barranco del Tintín and past a number of cortijos (including the Cortijo del Tintín). It is then necessary to cross the arroyo del Tintín and begin the climb up to the highest point at 1405m (Cuerda de Hazas Negras). Those who want to climb up can. Following the track down, we come to a gate without a fence and then make our way back to the starting point.

Güéjar Sierra: Acequia de la Solana - Río Maitena - Embalse Canales

This circular walk starts in the village of Güéjar Sierra. It is 12.2km long, has an elevation of 283m and takes approximately 4 hours to complete.
LONG DESCRIPTION
We start the route in the middle of the village and walk up to the barrio alto, past the Lavadero de las Eras Bajas and the Fuente de los 16 caños. From here, we follow the track el Sendero de la Gitana down to the Balsa de la Solana. We then follow the acequia along to the Molino del Coto. For most of the route, we follow the acequia but when we come to a farm with animals and here we have to circle round the top part to rejoin the track later. We continue on down to the Molino and across the bridge. We then leave the track and walk down to the Río Maitena along the Cuesta de la Viña. After a while, we come to one of the old tram stations and we then follow the tram rails to the tip of the Canales Reservoir. There is then a steep hike back up to the starting point.

From the centre, we follow the Camino de los Neveros and skirt round the Cañadillas mountain and then drop down to the Collado de las Sabinas. Here we turn left and make our way back down to the starting point.

This linear route in the Sierra Nevada goes from the Hoya de la Mora to the Lagunillas de la Virgen. It is 12km long, has an elevation of 468m and takes approximately 4 hours to complete. At this altitude there is no problem with it being too hot in August.
LONG DESCRIPTION
The route starts in the car park at Hoya de la Mora in the Sierra Nevada. We walk past the Refugio Militar Capitán Cobo and the Caseta de Información del Parque Nacional and then up to the statue of the Virgen de las Nieves. We continue up crossing some of the Sierra Nevada ski resort runs and on up to the Borreguiles del Dílar and some waterfalls. At 2900m, we reach the Laguna de las Yeguas and at 2945m, we come to the Lagunillas de la Virgen. We then make our way back to the starting point. We will have a sandwich at the highest point.

Route length: 8.5 km Estimated duration: 3 h 30 m Starting altitude: 2,030 m Maximum altitude reached: 2,613 m Maximum positive slope: 605 m. It is the highest point in the province of Almeria, there is a panoramic view from the top.
LONG DESCRIPTION
The starting point, Puerta de la Ragua is better known for winter sports such as cross country skiing in the winter but in the summer it is a good place to climb to a high altitude to enjoy the cool temperatures. This route climbs the Chullo mountain which is 2,613 meters of altitude and the highest point in the province of Almeria. It is easily accessible and is an easy climb. From the summit there is a wonderful panoramic view: To the south, the Sierras de Gádor, Contraviesa and Lújar, behind them the Mediterranean; below is , the Alpujarra. To the west Mulhacén, Alcazaba, Cerro Pelado and Picón de Jeres. To the north, the plains of the Marquesado, the Hoya de Guadix, the Sierra de Baza and, in the background, Cazorla, the Sagra and Segura. To the east, the line of peaks of the Sierra Nevada Almeriense, with the Cerro del Almirez in the foreground.

LONG DESCRIPTION
This circular route starts at the municipal swimming pool in Cazorla. We pass the castle as we leave the town and follow the route up to the Mirador de Riogazas. We then pass through the Riogazas picnic area and walk on to the Fuente Nacelrio. The track continues round past the Ermita de San Sebastián and back to the Río Nacelrio which we follow to the Cascada de la Malena where the Río Cerezuelo starts. From here, we make our way back to the starting point.

Dúrcal: Río Dúrcal - Cascada de los Bolos

This linear route follows the Río Dúrcal to the Cascada de los Bolos. It is 7.8km long, has an elevation of 182m and takes approximately 3 hours to complete.
LONG DESCRIPTION
There are a number of alternative length walks for this popular route but this one starts near the Río Dúrcal. We begin the route by crossing the river over a bridge. We follow the river up to an acequia which we follow. The acequia goes through a narrow, low tunnel. At this point of the walk, there are fantastic views of the river below. At the end of the acequia, we continue following the river and here there are times when it is necessary to walk through the water. After this point, depending on the amount of water, there are a number of waterfalls and we finally get to the Cascada de los Bolos.
Note: We have chosen to meet up in Durcal because we are not sure exactly where to park. We will drive to the starting point all together.

This is a linear route to the Río Dílar waterfall. It is 11.8km long, has an elevation of 250m and takes approximately 4 hours to complete.
LONG DESCRIPTION
This linear route follows the Río Dílar to the Río Dílar waterfall. The first half of the walk to the waterfall is uphill. We pass the Área Recreativa de Dílar on our right and then the hydroelectric power station, Central Eléctrica Nuestra Señora de las Angustias, on our left. The path crosses the river 17 times so this is a good walk to do in the summer when the weather is hot, the level of the water is lower and the temperature of the water is warmer.
We will probably eat at the end of the walk or near the end.

LONG DESCRIPTION
This walk is part of our attempt to continue walking even as the summer temperatures increase. The walk starts of with a steep climbs which is good because we get the climbing out of the way before the heat starts. This idea for this walk was taken from a walk by Bienve Delgado who has many good walks on wikiloc.

Lanjarón: Alberca Aceituno - Acequia Montalbán

This route explores the hills above Lanjarón and the acequias of the Río Lanjarón. The walk is 11km long and takes about 3 hours to complete.
All the climbing is at the start and most of the walk is in the shade. We will eat at the end of the walk maybe in the Parque el Salao at the start of the village or maybe in a better place if someone can recommend one.
LONG DESCRIPTION For this walk, we park at the Lanjarón municipal swimming pool. We walk through the village and then make our way up the Camino Huerta to the Alberca del Aceituno, the pool where the Acequia del Aceituno begins. We then continue up along the track through the Área Recreativa Huerta de las Monjas and up to the Fuente de la Huerta de las Monjas. We continue on up to the highest part of the walk, cross the Río Lanjarón and then follow the Acequia Montalban back down to the starting point.

This linear route walks from Hoya de la Mora up to El Cartujo in the Sierra Nevada. It is a fairly hard walk with an elevation of 704m, it is 16.2km long and takes approximately 6.5 hours to complete.
LONG DESCRIPTION
This linear route explores an area in the Sierra Nevada up from the Pradollano ski resort. We walk up from Hoya de la Mora to the Virgen de las Nieves. From here, we make our way up to the Laguna de las Yeguas and then on to the refugio de Elorrieta. We then walk up to El Cartujo before making our way back.

LONG DESCRIPTION
The walk starts just above the Sierra Nevada Pradollano Ski Resort. We follow the Collado del Diablo and make our way down to the Refugio San Francisco, walking through the Arroyo de San Juan to the Piedra Resbaladiza. After following part of the Acequia de Hoyo Puente, we walk up to the top of Morrón de Haza Mesa at 2208m. We then continue on the othe side of the Haza Mesa and follow the Acequia Haza Mesa back to the start of the loop. We then retrace our steps back to the starting point.

This is a linear route between Fuente de la Gitana and La Peza. The walk is 12.6km long and takes about 4 hours to complete.
LONG DESCRIPTION
The route begins at the Fuente de la Gitana. We cross and walk through Loma Haza de Cabaña and El Charcón. Before reaching La Peza, we follow part of the Mozarabic route of the Camino de Santiago. After visiting the town of La Peza, we return by the same route to the starting point.
This route is an example of a way of hiking that we invented years ago. You park in a place 6 or 7 km from a bar where you want to have breakfast. You go there and back and have breakfast in a bar. In this case the bar is in La Peza. When we did it a few weeks ago they had run out of bread. If you want us to reserve bread to make toast indicate it with an "M" or an "E" when you write it down. M = media tostada E = entera.

This circular route explores the Sierra de Huétor and Prado Negro. The walk is 12.3km long and take approximately 4 hours to complete. Almost all of the uphill takes place in the first 4km.
LONG DESCRIPTION
This circular walk begins near the Área Recreative de la Fuente de los Potros. We go past some caves and then walk down to a couple of waterfalls. We retrace out steps and begin an uphill section to Prado Negro. We follow a section of the Acequia Fardes before making our way down past a couple of fountains and back to the starting point.

This route explores the area behind the village of Diezma and visits the villages of Sillar Bajo and Los Villares. The walk is 14.4km and takes about 5 hours to complete.
LONG DESCRIPTION
The walk begins in the village of Diezma. There are two upclimbs on the first and we begin the first just after Diezma. We follow the route clockwise and pass the Cerro del Cerbal on our right and the Cerro del Cocorocha on our left. We walk through the village of Sillar Bajo and on to Los Villares. There is now another climb uphill as we approach the Cerro del Rayo and then make our way back to the starting point.

LONG DESCRIPTION
This easy linear walk follows part of the old tram network and tramlines from Güéjar Sierra to the Sierra Nevada. There is a gentle ascent and the walk starts by La Fabriquilla on the eastern side of the Canales Dam. We pass some of the stations and go through a number of tunnels before turning back and retracing our steps to the starting point.

This a linear walk between Baños de Graena and the Mirador Fin del Mundo with views of the Cárvacas de Marchal. The walk is 10.1km long and takes about 4 hours to complete. The walk starts in the the village of Baños de Graena with its thermal springs. We walk on to Marchal via a couple of viewpoints with fantastic views of the surrounding area and the caves and on to Beas de Guadix. From here we walk up to the MIrador Fin del Mundo where you can see the Monumento Natural Cárvacas de Marchal. We the retrace our steps and return to the start.

This circular walk along the Cañada del Sereno explores the Sierra de Huétor. We pass a number of viewpoints on the route with fantastic views of the Natural Park and then drop down to the Fuente de la Teja. There is an optional detour to visit the Cueva de los Mármoles. The route is 12.8km long and takes about 4 hours to complete. The walk begins near the Casa Forestal de los Peñoncillos, at Exit 259 on the A92.
