Description

This is a video we took in 2017 when driving past the reservoir. There were immense flames on the opposite side of the reservoir above the village of quentar.

It took two helicopters, two fire engines, 65 forest firefighters to put out the fire. The first was caused by stubble burning in a mountain area that had got out of control. There were no injuries.  The fire affected 10 hectares.

There was a devastating forest fire between quentar and La Peza in 1993 which destroyed 10 000 hectares. If you travel past the reservoir and go towards and beyond the village of Tocón you can still see that some of the pine trees that survived, they still have black burn marks from the fire. In 1993 there was no asphalt road after Tocon and after the big fire the road to la Peza was completed.

In the mountains above the dam there are still mountain look out posts which are manned 8 hours a day in the summer.
