This route covers the layout of the "Verea" of Trancamulas, a traditional road that allowed the cattle of Bácor to take advantage of the pastures of Mount Pajarillo and facilitated the transport of esparto grass and aromatic plants that were collected in the gullies of the Arroyo Baúl and Rambla de Balata to the Monte Pajarillo forest house where they were stored before being sent to the factory.

This route includes one of the most rugged landscapes of the Guadix-Baza depression with an intricate network of gullies and canyons that can reach depths of more than 300m. More than 200,000 years of erosion have left the discovery of a complicated geological structure in which lands formed during the last 250 million years.

However, the main attraction of this area is the extraordinary state of its vegetation cover, which provides us with a very valuable testimony of the landscapes that previously covered the entire territory of the Hoya de Guadix. Among the plant formations in the area, there is a pine forest of Carasco pines that gives way to a holm oak forest on the higher plains and, as we enter the gullies, to a semidesert dotted with oases of riparian vegetation at the bottom of the valleys.

The route is practically circular, recommending the ascent by the Arroyo del Baúl and the descent by the Rambla del Chopo.

The most appropriate time to do this trail is from autumn to spring, avoiding the hottest hours in the summer. The itinerary runs along boulevards and ravines, so in the event of storms there is a risk of floods. Check the weather forecast and never leave the marked path.
