Caldereria

Spanish

Description

This is the Caldereria. It is a street in Granada which is like being transported on a magic carpet to Morrocco or some exotic oriental location.

The sound and scents of Morocco are very apparent in this street. It is a bit touristy but who cares?  It is  very enjoyable to have a stroll and take in the atmosphere.  This is an excellent place to come for souvenirs, the wares sold here are very  colorful. It evokes a feeling of being in a North African bazaar.  There is a very unique vibe that makes this worth visiting. It is certainly a tourist trap no doubt, everything sold here is meant to be a souvenir. You can probably find something here to take home as a present. In between all the standard souvenirs shops  you can find some unique artist shops. This narrow, busy street is worth a stroll.

As well as the souvenir shops there are also Teterias and Restaurants.  The Teterias are tea shops that serve a wide range of teas from around the world. There is normally some relaxing oriental music playing and there is a chilled out vibe inside them.  A stay in Granada of a few days would normally include at least one trip to a teteria.

What is the meaning of Caldereria?

Calder is Spanish means cauldron. A cauldron is a Metal container, usually large, round and with two handles, used to heat or cook something. It is the street where they made cauldrons.
