Ermita del Cristo del Zapato

Built around 1925, the hermitage is located on the Chinchirina hill. The Christ is so called because he has a painted shoe at his feet. On May 3, a pilgrimage is made to it in which a large part of the town and the region participate. In the past, a large number of people climbed barefoot.

The Santo Cristo del Zapato is an image of Christ dressed as a Priest accompanied by the patron saints of Pinos del Valle that has been venerated in Pinos del Valle since October 9, 1791 in devotion to Don José Nicolás Orbe who was vicar son of the town, uncle of Cardinal Binel y Orbe.

It is located in a hermitage with a large cross at the top of the Chinchirina hill (recently rehabilitated after being struck by lightning in February 2009). This image is different from all the others of Christ crucified in which nakedness, wounds, pain, agony and death are contemplated. In this image he is seen on the cross, but alive, his expression is not pain, it is peace and serenity, with open eyes looking at the world with mercy. The crown is not of thorns but of the king. He is not naked but dressed in alb and stole signifying that he is the high priest, pontiff between god and men.

In Pinos del Valle, its festival is celebrated on May 3, preceded by a quinary of Eucharists. On the Sunday before April 28, they go down from the hermitage to the temple in the upper neighborhood where they are welcomed with a celebration of the word and on the 28th the quinario begins. On May 2 at night, at the end of the quinario, they go down to the temple of the lower neighborhood, there on the 3rd the Eucharist is celebrated with great solemnity and then after taking it in procession through the streets of the town, they go up again in a pilgrimage to his hermitage.
