This route explores the hills above Lanjarón and the acequias of the Río Lanjarón. The walk is 12km long and takes about 4 hours to complete.
For this walk, we park at the Lanjarón municipal swimming pool. We walk through the village and then make our way up the Camino Huerta to the Alberca del Aceituno, the pool where the Acequia del Aceituno begins. We then continue up along the track through the Área Recreativa Huerta de las Monjas and up to the Fuente de la Huerta de las Monjas. We continue on up to the highest part of the walk, cross the Río Lanjarón and then follow the Acequia Montalban back down to the starting point.table.
We did this walk in mid June when it was hot. As the climb was at the start of the walk, most of the walk was in the shade and there was lots of water. It is an ideal hot weather walk. We started the walk at 9.30 but in hot weather an even earlier start would be a good idea. There are a couple of places where someone with extreme vertigo might feel uncomfortable.
This walk would be very good for someone tired of the heat of summer. It would be possible to have a day out. Set of early, spend the day hanging out at the top waterfall area, have a picnic and then come down later on when things have cooled down.
