This is a short version of the Fishermen's Walk. We climb up to the hills above Marina del Este and La Herradura and there are lovely views of the beach and the bay. This walk is 6.5km long and takes approximately 3 hours to complete.
This walk is called the Fishermen's Walk (or Camino de los Pescadores) and follows the path that fishermen used to use to take their catch back to La Herradura.
The walk starts at the corner of Paseo de Cotobro and Playa Cotobro. We walk on to Playa El Muerto via a stone walkway built into the rocks. We cross the beach and up a series of stone steps for about 100 metres. We then follow the path to the left towards Peñón del Lobo and reach the Mirador del Peñon del Lobo, the highest point of the first part of the walk. Here there are fantastic views of the beaches of Almuñécar, Marina del Este, Punta de la Mona, and the bays below .
The route continues and comes out opposite the large Hotel Best Alcazar. From here, we take the path to the right towards La Herradura. The beach would be a good place to stop for lunch.
We walk along and up to the Camino Real. The final part of the walk is along roads and we walk above La Herradura and then down and back to the starting point.
