The walk starts in Plaza Nueva. You walk up Cuesta Gomérez and through the Puerta de las Granadas arch. Taking the left pathway, you walk past the statue of Washington Irving , author of Tales of the Alhambra, past the Pilar de Carlos V, up to the Torre de la Justicia and through the Puerta de la Justicia. This is one of the main entrances to the grounds of the Alhambra.

The Plaza de los Aljibes is a good place to stop and admire the views of the Barrio Albaicín and Sacromonte. You walk through the Puerta del Vino to the Palacio Carlos V*, a circular construction within a square building. Here you will find the Museo de la Alhambra* and Museo de Bellas Artes*. As you come out of the palace, turn left and then left again and walk along Calle Real Alta. On your left is the Iglesia de Santa María de la Alhambra*, the Museo de Ángel Barrios* (a famous Granadino composer), and the Baño de la Mezquita*.  (* entrace to all these monuments is free).

At the end of Calle Real Alta is the Parador de San Francisco where there is an outside café bar and restaurant, with views of the Albaicín and Sacromonte.

You retrace your steps to the Palacio de Carlos V and turn left to the Torre de los Carros and then follow the path down to Fuente del Tomate (a Monument to Ángel Ganivet, a Granadino writer). You walk down along the Cuesta de las Cruces, back through the Puerta de las Granadas and down to Plaza Nueva.
