This page may be useful to work out prices for carpooling. It will work out the distance and duration between any start and finish point. If you decide on a price per distance unit, for example miles or kilometres then it will calculate the price of a round trip. Type the start and finish of your journey in the form below. It will calculate the distance and show you a map of the route. Modify the price to your agreed price if you wish. NOTES ABOUT RECOMMENDED PRICE :
It is difficult to calculate the price of car pooling. Everyone you speak to has a different opinion. On the one hand you could say that you should never charge anyone to go in your car because you are going there anyway. On the other hand if the drivers are offered some help with the petrol costs it may encourage them to give people a lift. Should the price be the actual price of the fuel or just a token to show appreciation? You decide. I have set the default price per KM on this calculator as 0.065 per KM which is just a random number. If you decide that the price is per person it will encourage drivers to take more people. You can change the price per KM to any figure you like according to the agreed rate in your walking group. Note that in a decimal system 0.065 would be 6.5 cents, 6.5 pennies etc. .
